Dan
Bassill became a volunteer tutor in 1973 when he joined Montgomery Ward
Headquarters in Chicago.
In 1975 he became leader of the program at Wards.
In 1990 he left Wards and converted the original program into the
Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, Inc. In 1992 he and seven
volunteers formed Cabrini Connections, to help 7th graders from the
original program continue mentoring through high school.
At the
same time, he created the Tutor/Mentor Connection to help programs like
Cabrini Connections reach k-12 youth in all high poverty neighborhoods
in Chicago.
In
July 2011 Dan created the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC to continue this
vision in a new structure. A birthday gift is NOT tax-deductable, but
does recognize Dan's vision, long-term service, and gives you a share of
Dan's vision.

Among many awards was an honorary doctorate received from Illinois
Wesleyan University in 2001. Among many blessings has been meeting my
wife through tutoring, and building long term connections with youth
like Leo Hall, who I first met in 1973. I attended Leo's 50th Birthday
Celebration in August, 2014, as his guest!

from an Oct 21, 2015 Chicago Tribune showing my use of maps.
